The Foxhole Court (All For The Game #1)

Blurb

Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential—and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

My Review

(Wistful sigh) Here we go again, diving back into the captivating world of the Foxes with a fervor that only true fans can understand. This trilogy? It's more than just a series of books; it's my literary comfort food, my security blanket in times of need. I've lost track of the number of times I've journeyed through its pages, but who's keeping count when the Foxes are calling?
Now, I'll be honest, my usual literary fare consists of a healthy mix of fantasy, dark romance, and a sprinkle of rom-com and horror. But the Foxhole Court? They're in a league of their own. Picture this: a whirlwind of EXY, fierce competition, and a dash of obsession thrown in for good measure. Yet, it's not merely about the game; it delves deep into past traumas, survival, hidden scars, and the unbreakable bond of found family that keeps me coming back for more.
At the heart of it all is Neil, our reluctant hero with a past as shadowed as the darkest night. Eight years on the run with his mother, evading a father he'd rather forget, until tragedy strikes once more, leaving him alone in the world. But there are two things Neil refuses to relinquish: his will to survive and his love for EXY. It's his lifeline, his anchor in a sea of uncertainty.
Enter the Foxes, the underdogs of the EXY league, a ragtag bunch of misfits with more baggage than a baggage claim. But with the addition of Kevin Day, the league's second-best player, everything changes. And when their sights are set on Neil, it's a match made in EXY heaven (or perhaps hell).
But Neil's not one to trust easily; he is still wary, especially of Andrew Minyard, the resident psycho minion of the Foxes (fun fact: he's exactly my height, go figure). He is always high on his court-ordered medication, but not let his bright smile and height fool you; behind that disarming smile lies a razor-sharp wit and a personality as sharp as his knives. Andrew's a force to be reckoned with, and crossing him is ill-advised. However, as Kevin takes Neil under his wing, and with Andrew and Kevin practically inseparable, Neil finds himself entangled in ways he never anticipated. Andrew might hate everything and everyone, but he is fiercely protective of those who prove themselves for his protection. He is hell-bent to find out Neil's secrets, and Neil can't have that.
Let's not overlook Kevin, the golden boy with dark secrets of his own. His passion for EXY borders on obsession, yet he's determined to lead his team to victory against all odds.
As Neil navigates the treacherous waters of the Foxes' world, he realizes that survival and EXY may not be his sole priorities anymore. With rival teams and hidden agendas lurking around every corner, the game is about to take a darker turn. Secrets will be unveiled, alliances tested, and I'll be right here, devouring every page with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Because when it comes to the Foxes, it's all or nothing.

All for the game, all for the Foxes.
Let the games begin!
