Hitched / Ride or Die Romances

 Hitched

Blurb

The game has just begun, rabbit. Are you ready to play?

Lex: Prison was my home for the rest of my life and my lives after that. But I escaped. I got out. Now I'm walking along the side of the road in the pouring rain. Suddenly, prison doesn't seem so bad.

Headlights dance around me as a car pulls to a stop. When I knock on the window, she agrees to give me a ride. She's much younger than me and too naïve to know you shouldn't give a ride to strangers. Especially not strangers who are as dangerous as me.

A rabbit's foot sways from the rearview mirror, a bad omen I choose to ignore when I take her and her car on a roadtrip to the border. But somehow, along the way, she stirs up feelings I've never been capable of.

Will I make it to the border? Or will the little rabbit I've ensnared end up sending me back to prison where I belong?

My Review

Rain pours down in sheets as Selena speed down a desolate road, fleeing an abusive husband. She spot a lone hitchhiker, tattooed and broad-shouldered, standing in the rain. Against all better judgment, she decide to pick him up. This is where "Hitched" begins, pulling us into a world where danger and desire intertwine in the most disturbing ways.

Lex, the hitchhiker, is a man on the run; he's an escapee from prison, tasting freedom for the first time in a decade. His liberation comes at a cost, and he's not above using the young woman who offers him a ride to secure his freedom. Lex is a sociopath, a predator with a chilling thrill for the hunt, and Selena, who picks him up unwittingly becomes his prey. She is his Rabbit, and he is the relentless hunter.

This novella, though brief, is a masterclass in tension and dark allure. The narrative grips us from the first page, pulling into a twisted journey where safety is a distant memory. "Hitched" is not just a quick read; it's a fast-paced plunge into a world where the lines between desire and danger blur ominously. For those looking for an intense, dark escape, this story delivers in spades.

Listening to the audiobook version adds another layer of immersion. The dual narration is hauntingly perfect, bringing the characters to life in a way that makes the darkness palpable. Their performances are nothing short of mesmerizing, making the chilling tale even more compelling.

"Hitched" is the epitome of dark romance. It features a stark age gap of about 20 years, a ruthless murderer on the loose, and a young woman running from an abusive arranged marriage. Lex is not a misunderstood hero with a secret heart of gold; he is a morally black anti-hero whose intentions are as dark as his past. There are no illusions here—what you see is the raw, unfiltered truth of a predator's mind.

This book is a chilling, thighs-clenching dark romance that doesn't shy away from the sinister side of human nature. It's a gripping tale that will leave you breathless, both in its tension and its intensity. If you crave a story that delves into the depths of desire and danger, "Hitched" is a ride you won't forget.
